Pi Chapter History

The History of the Pi Chapter

The Pi chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta was established on March 19, 1887 at Albion College. Soon after in 1908, Pi’s charter was revoked for two reasons: decreasing enrollment in the college and secondly, infringement of college policy: the sisters had been caught dancing past curfew in their lodge.

Kappa Alpha Theta Lodge Albion College Pi Chapter

In 1955, the Pi chapter was re-established at Albion College. Since then, the chapter has flourished, not only in quality but also in number of women in the house. Each semester, the new members take advantage of their new found freedom by dancing in the street on Bid Day.

In the 60’s, the beautiful Theta lodge was burnt to the ground by a fire sparked in the main support beam of the house. Sigma Chi’s (our neighbor’s at the time) called the fire department and the President of the College, but it was too late. Since then, Pi’s home has been relocated to the fabulous Lodge on Cass Street.
