Our Laptop Sign-Out and Use Policy:
You may check out laptops (Mac or Chromebook) and headphones at the Circulation Desk for up to 4 hours! Laptops are for in-library use only. For extended laptop use, contact Instructional Technology at x0962, or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
To check out a laptop, visit the Circulation Desk. Never leave a laptop unattended: borrowers are financially responsible for loss, theft or damage.
Return your laptop to the Circulation Desk within 4 hours of checkout or before the library closes for the day, whichever occurs first. Bring your laptop to the Circulation Desk to renew it.
To log in, use your email username and password.
Albion College students, faculty and staff who have valid ID Cards and are in our library database may sign out the laptops.
All patrons are responsible for knowing and following the rules stated in this Laptop Sign-Out and Use Policy. Patrons fined or suspended under these rules may not use ignorance of the rules as the basis for an appeal.
Overdue fines for laptops are $1.00 per hour or any portion of each hour the laptop is overdue. Laptops are considered lost if not returned by the time the library closes for the evening. Patrons will be billed the next regular working day. The bill for a lost laptop will include a $25 per-item per-day fine and a replacement cost of $1500. The $25 daily fine is non-refundable and non-negotiable.
In such cases, the Registrar’s Office may withhold diplomas, grades and transcripts until all outstanding library charges are paid. Patrons may be billed to replace any missing or damaged components of the laptop they checked out.
Additional Policies, Terms and Conditions:
Patrons signing out laptops are required to abide by the Albion College Acceptable Use Policy for Use of Information Technology Resources.
Library staff will provide as much technical support for users as possible, including basic troubleshooting. Some problems we will be unable to solve, in which case we’ll give you a different laptop. Bring laptops to the desk to get help. Please inform a desk worker of any problems with the laptop so the issue can be resolved before the next patron checks it out.
Borrowers need to save their work to an external storage device or to their H drive. Do not download or save files to the laptop hard drive.
The library is not responsible for any files left on any laptop or for loss of or damage to a user’s file during the loan period.
The library is not responsible for any computer viruses that may be transferred to, or from, a user’s storage device.
Only one laptop may be checked out at a time per person. For group check-outs, contact the Circulation Services Coordinator at x0383 or email@example.com prior to the date the laptops are needed.
