About This Blog

Hello, my name is Andrew French. I am a Professor of Chemistry at Albion College and together with two Physics faculty here (Aaron Miller and David Seely) received a Hewlett-Packard Teaching with Technology Grant to incorporate Tablet PC Technology into the Classrooms and Labs for Organic Chemistry and Introductory Physics. Read the project summary to learn more.

What all this boils down to is that Aaron Miller has two years working with tablets as a presentation device and I have one year. During this time I have used the tablet and a program called Classroom Presenter as, effectively, an electronic chalkboard. This proposal will allow (force?) us to take this to the student so they can interact with us visually on the tablet, provide feedback, submit responses that we can incorporate into the class, be graded as part of assessment, or to critique the class in real time. It was decided that I would implement into organic chemistry in the fall of the first year (13 weeks away as of May 26). This blog will describe the ups and downs of the preparation and implementation of this tablet PC technology into my sophomore organic chemistry class. I hope someone finds it useful or at least mildly entertaining.
