Goldenrain Tree

Koelreuteria paniculata Laxm. – Sapindaceae – soapberry family

The goldenrain tree, sometimes variously written as goldenraintree or golden rain tree, is an east Asian species that is a relatively uncommon street tree in Albion.  It is largely overlooked until it produces its showy clusters of golden-yellow flowers in July.

The interesting fruits of the goldenrain tree are large capsules that begin to open as soft green structures in late July and early August before they dry and turn brown.
