Gray Dogwood

Cornus racemosa Lam. – Cornaceae – dogwood family

The gray dogwood is native small tree that is an uncommon street tree in Albion.  It differs from the native flowering dogwood and introduced Korean dogwood in that it does not have the four white bracts, which are modified leaves that people usually call petals, just below the tight head of small greenish flowers.

In Albion, the gray dogwood produces its clusters of white flowers in June.
