The spring 2011 Regional field geology course will focus on the geology of the Pacific Northwest, culminating with a 14-day field trip to Washington state in May.  The field trip will follow the late Pleistocene megafloods through the  Channeled Scablands and Columbia gorge and will include visits to Cascade volcanoes and the Pacific Coast.  The theory of massive ice age floods sculpting these landscapes was originally proposed by the famous geologist J Harlen Bretz, Albion College class of 1905 (see Bretz page) and was featured in a recent PBS NOVA film.
