Do you need a letter of recommendation?

Applying for an internship, job, summer research experience, or graduate school?  Need a letter of recommendation?   Faculty are happy to help you with your application but would appreciate that you supply us relevant information, including

  • The name and description of the program(s) to which you are applying, a web-link would also be helpful
  • Your goals related to this application (if it is for graduate school, we would like to see your essays)
  • Your major(s)/minor(s)/concentration(s)
  • A list of the geology, other science course, other relevant courses, along with grades
  • A list of other relevant experiences (research experiences, club leadership, jobs, internships)
  • Your GPA
  • The deadline for the letter of application and letter of recommendation
  • Your long-term goals
  • If you are applying to graduate school, it would be useful to know your GRE scores

Finally, it is a lot of work to write letters for students and we prefer that you choose only the necessary number of reference letter writers (i.e. don’t change the group of letter writers for each application- there may be some unusual exceptions).
