E&M 102 – Course Description

Prerequisite:   A minimum 2.0 in Math 100 or placement into Math 120.

EM102 provides an introduction to the macroeconomy and macroeconomic models with special emphasis on the role of financial markets, interest rates, the Federal Reserve, monetary and fiscal policy, and money and capital markets. This class fills the modeling mode

After completing this course, you should be able to

  • define and calculate GDP, inflation, and unemployment statistics
  • analyze the monetary system and the role of money in the economy
  • make predictions about how various shocks may cause the economy to fluctuate
  • evaluate the use of monetary policy and fiscal policy for economic stabilization purposes
  • graphically depict the aggregate demand and aggregate supply model
